Jegede: Akeredolu jittery over my popularity
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer in the Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), has chided his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, for describing him (Jegede) as a stooge of Governor Olusegun Mimiko. He said the APC candidate was just overwhelmed by the Eyilafe phenomenon vibrating across the state.
Reacting to the outburst in a statement by his media aide, Mr Kayode Fasua, Jegede said the claim by Akeredolu, a custodian of a controversial ticket secured through corrupt means, is a face-saving design to cover-up the polarisation in his party at the federal and state Levels.
Describing Akeredolu as an attention seeker, who is threatened by his popularity, Jegede said that the People of Ondo state are too sophisticated for Akeredolu's pettiness and negative politics, insisting that the APC candidate should prepare for his imminent defeat in the November election.
According to Jegede, it is ridiculous to say a man who has attained the peak of his career and unarguably the longest serving head of body of benchersý in the country, with a distinguished career in both private and public service, will be tagged as stooge to anybody.
He said Akeredolu's description of his ambition as a third term agenda of Governor Mimiko only confirms his fears and that of the APC's looming failure, because the people are solidly behind him.
Urging the APC candidate to come forward with his plans for the state. Jegede said: "Akeredolu is obviously overwhelmed by his (jegede)' popularity, display of love and approval for his candidature by the people of the state, hence, his decision to result to the diatribe."
Describing Akeredolu as an outsider in the state who has no base, even in his home town, Jegede said: "Ondo electorates has no place for people who lacks character," adding that "ingrates and backstabbers have no place in the governance of the Sunshine state".
Insisting that integrity is a factor in determining who governs the state, Jegede mentioned that his competence is not in doubt even as he offered to place on record that he remains the most competent, credible among co -contenders in the approaching election, especially in view of his role "in the most successful government so far in the history of our dear state."
This Jegede said is against public knowledge of the deficiency of "Mr Akeredolu who has little knowlege of the socio-political subset of Ondo state, it's people and structure which is why he made a mess of himself and the AC, which he stood for in the 2012 election as he couldn't answer simple questions boardaring on names and locations of popular places in Akure the state capital"
